This aerial panorama of the University of Washington, taken by Christopher Gjevre, captures the highly anticipated Return to Montlake, minutes before the opening kick-off of the Washington Huskies football game season opener. Centered in the picture is the newly-renovated Husky Stadium, which originally opened in 1920. Overlooking Union Bay, on scenic Lake Washington to the east and the Olympic Mountains to the west, the stadium is unique in that fans can attend games by boat. The nationally ranked University Medical Center is right of the stadium and, to its right, is Portage Bay waterway. Visible in the center of campus is Drumheller Fountain, with beautiful Mount Rainier in the distance.
